July is OVER! Whew! was it hot....The 60th celebration/parade went off without a hitch. (did I mention it was HOT!) There are photos on our facebook site. YES, we are on facebook. NO, we don't have them posted here, I can't figure out how to get more photos on our site. Guess that's what to expect when you do it yourself.
Speaking of doing it yourself, it's time to update/upgrade/re-do this website. Anyone interested? We pay minimal wage (sorry but the website budget is at $0 right now) which is why this site was started for free. BUT if there are any aspiring website developers out there who want to help with a makeover, send us a line...
Fall is on it's way NEXT month, I can't wait for the crisp mornings.
Until then

06-22-10

Okay, weeks have passed since the fashion show. I forgot the camera, phone camera is broken...It was GREAT! We had Vermont t's on full display (ilovermontpelier, eat more kale & cheese all made an appearance), a "balloon girl" and the "everything we sell" dress. Wait till next year.

That being said, in less than 2 weeks it's OUR 60th BIRTHDAY PARTY BASH! Come join the fun on Saturday July 3 from 9am-1pm here at our store. Granted, there is a TON of stuff going on in good 'ol Montpeculiar that day, but please make sure you stop by to say hello and let us thank YOU for helping us be the business we are. It could not be done without the support from our community.
We'll have cupcakes (while they last) popcorn (while it lasts) chocolate samples (until we run out) balloons for the kids (we got plenty) Marko the magician (11:00-12:00) and a whole bunch of other fun stuff.
and then
THE PARADE! watch us strut our stuff down state street as we continue our celebration. It starts at 6.
See you all there.

May FIRST!
The begining of May in Montpelier always brings a bustle of activity to the state capitol. Today being no exception. Now that last weeks snowstorm is well behind us, it is time to become fully immersed in springtime activities.
Green up Day, the Farmers Market, Bike Swap, All Species Day, A march to the statehouse for healthcare, birthday parties, Three Penny Tap Room's 1 year backlot party, just to name a few. As I sit inside all day I am envious of all those outside, nonetheless it is the life of retail. Mother's Day is only a week away and look for us this year at Montpelier's Annual Fashion Show (about a month away, Saturday June 5th)! Yes, you read it right, we are going to be a part of a fashion show....stay tuned.

Happy Valentine's Day! Wow, 2 months have gone by just like that and it's Valentines Day 2010.  I've said it before and I'll say it again, "Time flies when you work retail". Considering I just pre-ordered our 2011 Moleskine datebook order, it couldn't be any more true. But back to this year, 2010. A special year for us at Capitol Stationers. We turn the BIG 60! So much has happened since 1950 I don't even know where to begin. Elvis, the Beatles, Landing on the Moon, Who shot JR? The Internet and Beanie Babies. Time flies... Mark your calendar and make some time to come visit on July 3, 2010. Not only will it be the infamous Montpelier 3rd of July celebration, but a celebration of 60 years here at Capitol Stationers. More details to follow.  That's it for now. Enjoy what's left of winter, spring will be here soon enough.

Happy Holidays!

I meant to post a tidbit back in November, but with family owned retail, there are always a million and one things to do and taking 5 minutes to write a little blog seems to get pushed to the back burner...
That being said, it is now December 16th, 9 days before Christmas and the busiest 9 days we see all year. We are filled to the rafters with fun, practical, and many locally made gifts. From hand made maple candy canes and ball point pens made from an old statehouse elm tree,  to the infamous "eat more kale T" we have loads of gift ideas this holiday season.

there, my 5 minutes is up for now, be good and have a safe and happy new year! It is to be my new years resolution to get to this blogging thing a bit more often, we shall see...

Summer is over! (well Almost)

Sooooo, almost 5 months of getting a website up and running and nothing from our end here at Capitol. What can I say, I've been busy with a million other things, like I said before, it only took us about 10 years to get on the web...

That being said, summer is pretty much over. We have been blessed with FANTASTIC weather the past few weeks and Fall is just around the corner. In Vermont, that means an influx of the "leaf peepers" and here at Capitol it means we get busy! (It's been a slooooooow summer)

We will begin our Sunday hours on September 13th this year, opening at 11am and closing at 3pm. Many people ask why we are not open on Sundays year round. Well, we should be but you know what? Everybody needs a day off to be with family (if you have them) and being a family founded, owned and operated business means if we open year round on Sundays, we (being my brother and I) have to work it. Quite simply, I'd like to have a defenite day off on my schedule every week that I can use to do whatever it is there is to do with the family.

That's it for now, no sales pitches, no product placements (for now). Enjoy what fall brings us and check back often, I hope to freshen things up more than every 5 monthsSmile

Welcome.

Well, after about 10 years of saying we need to get a website up, it is finally time! Mind you, this is no Amazon.com and we don't want it to be. This site is meant to be a web connection of our physical location in good ol' Montpelier (or as we like to call it, Montpeculiar)

Welcome to capitolstationers.com! a work in progress...
Capitol Stationers Inc. is a 3rd generation, family founded, owned and operated establishment serving the needs of central Vermont since 1950. It's family roots in the stationery business dates back to the late 1800's, starting with William H. Bigglestone and his emplyment with Greenough, Hopkins & Cushing, a blank book manufacturer in Boston.

mmmmmmmmm CHOCOLATE...

Stationery - Maps - Greeting Cards - Photo Keepsakes - Basic Office Needs -  Vermont Made Gifts & Souvenirs - Chocolates - Maple Goods
 and so much more.
Capitol Stationers is proud to be an independently owned Vermont business. Much like many Montpelier businesses, you will often find the owner working the checkout, sweeping (or in our case shoveling) the sidewalk, unloading trucks and answering any questions or concerns on the sales floor.
While Montpelier may be the countries smallest state capitol, it has the biggest heart. Step into a crosswalk downtown and you will see. (beware of cars without VT plates though!).
We offer a broad selection of products ranging from the most basic wood pencil and paper, to that perfect greeting card for someone special. Unique gifts for any occasion or holiday (many locally made right here in the green mountain state) and a great line of maps that will not only tell you where you are, but where you need to go. We have loads of picture frames, photo albums and scrapbooks too. It doesn't stop there, locally made chocolates and maple products await your consuming pleasure.
You can call or email us anytime, or when you are in good 'ol Montpeculiar drop in and let us know what we can do for you.

We accept the following credit cards:
we accept CASH too!
